Vampgreen Sustainable Flame-Retardant Compounds

Vampgreen is a range of flame-retardant engineering compounds manufactured by VAMP TECH Spa using recycled and renewable raw materials. Supplied to the UK market by Abbey Polymers, the Vampgreen range delivers the same levels of flame retardancy, mechanical performance, and regulatory compliance as VAMP TECH’s established prime-based products, while significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the finished compound.

Available across multiple polymer platforms including PA6, PA66, and PP, Vampgreen compounds are designed for manufacturers who need to meet both performance specifications and sustainability targets without compromise. Abbey Polymers stocks and supplies the Vampgreen range alongside a complementary line of Denigreen technical compounds for non-flame-retardant applications.

Why Sustainable Compounds?

Sustainability requirements are now a routine part of material specifications across the electrical and electronics, household appliance, automotive, and e-mobility sectors. OEMs and tier-one suppliers are increasingly expected to demonstrate reduced carbon footprints throughout their supply chains, and material selection plays a central role in meeting these targets.

However, switching to recycled or bio-based materials has traditionally involved a trade-off. Recycled feedstocks can introduce variability, and maintaining flame-retardant certifications with non-prime resin requires significant formulation expertise. This is where Vampgreen stands apart. VAMP TECH draws on more than 30 years of experience in flame-retardant formulation to produce sustainable compounds that meet the same quality standards, certifications, and performance levels as their prime-based equivalents. For manufacturers, this means the ability to specify a lower-carbon material with confidence that it will perform in the application and satisfy regulatory requirements.

The Vampgreen Product Range

Vampgreen compounds are formulated using recycled and renewable raw materials sourced from three categories.

Recycled Feedstocks: The majority of Vampgreen grades are based on mechanically recycled polymers sourced from post-industrial (PIR) or post-consumer (PCR) waste streams. These include PA66 recovered from the textile industry, recycled polypropylene, and other engineering polymers reclaimed from industrial manufacturing processes. VAMP TECH’s formulation expertise ensures that recycled feedstocks are compounded to deliver consistent, repeatable performance batch to batch.

Bio-Based Feedstocks: Selected Vampgreen grades use polymers derived from renewable, non-petroleum sources such as vegetable oils and vegetable waste from the food industry. These bio-based formulations offer a further route to reducing fossil fuel dependency while maintaining full technical performance.

Organic Waste Valorisation: VAMP TECH also develops compounds using raw materials obtained through the valorisation of organic waste, including oil and fat residues. This approach diverts waste from landfill and converts it into high-value engineering materials.

Vampgreen & Denigreen: Understanding the Range

VAMP TECH’s sustainable product portfolio is split into two complementary lines, following the same naming convention used across their wider product range.

Vampgreen: Vampgreen compounds are flame-retardant formulations based on recycled or renewable raw materials. These grades carry the same fire safety certifications as VAMP TECH’s prime-based flame-retardant products and are designed for applications where self-extinguishing performance is required.

Denigreen: Denigreen compounds are technical (non-flame-retardant) formulations based on the same sustainable raw material sources. These grades are designed for applications where high mechanical, thermal, or electrical performance is needed but flame retardancy is not a requirement.

Both lines are available across PP, PA6, and PA66 platforms, with selected grades carrying UL 94 Yellow Card certification for flammability and RTI (Relative Thermal Index) performance.

Features & Benefits of Vampgreen Compounds

  • Prime-Equivalent Performance: Vampgreen compounds are formulated to deliver the same mechanical, thermal, electrical, and flame-retardant performance as VAMP TECH’s established prime-based products. Specifying Vampgreen does not mean accepting a lower-performing material.
  • Certified Flame Retardancy: Selected Vampgreen grades carry UL 94 Yellow Card certification with RTI values, providing the same third-party verified fire safety assurance as prime-based alternatives.
  • Reduced Carbon Footprint: By using recycled and renewable feedstocks in place of virgin petroleum-based polymers, Vampgreen compounds offer a measurable reduction in embodied carbon, helping manufacturers meet their sustainability commitments.
  • Halogen-Free Options: Vampgreen grades are available with halogen-free and red phosphorus-free flame-retardant systems, supporting compliance with increasingly stringent environmental and chemical regulations.
  • Multiple Polymer Platforms: With grades available in PA6, PA66, and PP, the Vampgreen range can serve a broad range of applications and performance requirements from a single sustainable product family.
  • Regulatory Compliance: All Vampgreen compounds meet current REACH and RoHS requirements. Selected grades are certified to EN 45545 for rail applications and other sector-specific standards.
  • Consistent Quality: VAMP TECH’s compounding expertise and quality systems ensure that recycled feedstocks are processed to deliver the batch-to-batch consistency that production environments require.

Typical Applications for Vampgreen Compounds

Vampgreen compounds are designed for the same applications as VAMP TECH’s prime-based ranges, making them suitable wherever a manufacturer wishes to reduce the environmental impact of their material specification without changing the performance profile. Typical applications include:

  • Electrical and Electronics: Connectors, terminal blocks, switch housings, and enclosures where flame retardancy and strong electrical properties are required. The UL-certified Vampgreen PA66 grades are particularly well suited to this sector.
  • Household Appliances: Internal structural components, motor housings, control panels, and fan assemblies where UL certification and glow wire compliance are standard requirements.
  • E-Mobility: Battery management housings, charging connectors, and high-voltage components where halogen-free flame retardancy and reduced carbon footprint are both priorities for OEM supply chains.
  • Automotive: Under-bonnet and interior components where recycled content can contribute to whole-vehicle carbon reduction targets.
  • Rail and Public Transport: Interior fittings and electrical housings where EN 45545 compliance and sustainable material sourcing align with operator procurement policies.
  • Construction: Electrical distribution components, junction boxes, and fittings where flame retardancy and environmental responsibility are both specified.
